Tuna/Egg Catfood I use a 1/2 gallon wide mouth jar, fill it with cat food, and fill it with bacon grease(heated to thin it), just to cover the cat food. Let it set in the jar like that on the way to the bait station and pour it directly into the bait hole. If you let it set in cold weather, the bacon grease will "gel" and get thick. Then, you can "smear" it around. Sausage grease works well, as does hamburger grease. Smoked bacon grease has the best drawing power, due to the smoky bacon smell. If you want, you can crush and crunch up the cat food into smaller chunks, but, for a summer bait station, I just leave it as is. Coons love it, and grey foxes are attracted to it as well. You can also use cheap dog food as well as the cat food. It doesn't have the fishy tuna smell, but if you use bacon grease, the critters will still find it. Another good mix is fish flavored cat food soaked in a mix of fish oil. For bait, I use a teasthingy or so down the hole if it does not have a real strong smell, less if it's reeking. Cuts down on the possum catches that way.For a change of pace, dump a squirt of liquid smoke into the grease when you heat it up to mix it.(not much).Coons aren’t hard to bait. They'll eat almost everything. But you can up your odds if you pre-bait them in a few days before season. Plus you up the odds on other catch, too
