when you mix castor for a beaver lure .mix 5o % castor and 50% glycerine. now vodka will work but you will see that over time the liquid will leave the mixture so if you plan on letting it set up use glycerine oil .now if you plan on using the castor say in a few days to a week then vodka can be used

thanks bill. i have been trying to learn all i can about handling castors and oil sacs, and about trapping beaver. i made my first beaver set today and i hope to be handling some castor in the morning.

here is a tip that works when you are in a pinch
take a half of castor and put in a pint baggie and add just enuff water to cover it.shake it real good and becareful not to spill. just take a small pile of mud and put your finger in the mud this will prevent the liquid from running off the mound.then just pour the liquid in that finger hole.this will give you plenty for three or four sets.when you run out just repeat the process.
note this is not the best way but will work in a pinch when you run out of beaver lures
