There are many irrigation and farm ponds around the area of Southwest Missouri where I live. Chances are, that there are plenty throughout the Ozarks as well as the whole country. I have been to three ponds this winter and have caught bass and crappie consistently. I use live bait and plastic grubs. I use either chartreuse or smoke colored grubs 3" in length and either minnows or night crawlers for live bait. I've caught one bluegill on a minnow at the Roseman pond where there are abundant crappie, bluegill and bass. I think bluegill are not much of a winter fish. Today I had a few bites on a night crawler at the Dodd pond, but nothing serious enough to make a hook set, I believe they were bluegills. I also caught bass on a chartreuse beetle spin. I would appreciate anyone else's views and experiences on winter pond fishing.
