hey mocat can you only use cage traps? from the thread that i have posted on the trapboard people are saying vegitables ect for the baits....i havent heard of any calls for them or anyone calling for them at all...if you have a foxpro call or a e caller play around with different sounds like maybe prarie dog distress or hey even groundhog distress!!! i definatley am going to kill some with the 22 mag or trap some with the cages...ill get back to you about my results when the season starts.. >foxpro<

that's what i was wondering about, if they would come out of the hole to investigate the groundhog distress call or alarm whistle. the alarm sound might just spook em, hard to say. you can only use cage traps during the open hunting season with a hunting permit. i have had success catching them with apples, fresh clover, and cinnamon applesauce. i wonder if the pelts have any value? i know some old timers used to make boot laces out of groundhog hides. i've heard the meat makes a good fox bait, and i know it is good eating.

yea i would diffinatly cut them up for some fox or cat bait! i have a foxpro caller so ill try the groundhog distress some time! Take the hide and stretch it just like a beaver (round style) then paint like a indian style painting...like a bison or maybe a deer or a yote ECT....they can be quite valuable. but of course like anything you would need a buyer first. >foxpro<
