artifact hunting is just a dangerous as trapping or hunting, you are in the same environment and surroundings...i always try to hunt with a partner if at all possible. For one its fun to share a item that you have found with someone, and its also good to have someone get you to the hospital if you get bitten by a COTTONMOUTH that you didn't see when you were bending down to look at a interesting rock!!! been there done that but thank the big man up stairs that it was only a water-snake! And that leads up to my next tip always carry a sturdy walking stick for hiking to the next spot or flipping over some leaves on a gravel bar to avoid being bitten by out cottonmouthed friends...LOL...and if you want you can beat them off with it too LOL!!! also always wear a pair of sturdy COMFORTABLE boots wile in the field, and if in the more wet environment wear some knee high water resistant preferably snake proof boots! a good pair of boots can help to prevent a rolled ankle or a sprained one...and one last tip don't stick your hand into any dark holes, and man do i got a story on that! be safe and have fun! >foxpro<

I never have hunted arrowheads before, but I know a few people that do. I should go with one of them and try it out. I always wear lace up Justin work boots wherever I go and havent broken anything yet. Thanks for the tip about the walking stick, I will use when I go. As for snakes, I try to steer as clear as possible from them lol.

Yea man you should give it a try sometime,i live in pettis and i am just gussing but you are to the south, south east of me? those justins are some pretty trusty boots thats for sure! anything above your ankle is good, but anything below you could get a nasty sprain and your trip could end early...A walking stick has saved me tons of times, from beatin off snakes or from keepin me from slidin down a steep steep hillside!!!another tip for the snakes, and man i really hate snakes INVEST IN A 410 SNAKE CHARMER!!! i only use it on private ground tho... >foxpro<
