I'm just interested to see how y'all decide it's time to plant. I know from working in a greenhouse for a large part of my life, people have different ways of doing it. Some old timers would always come in on Valentine's Day for lettuce seed, no matter how much ice or snow was on the ground. St Paddy's Day for potatoes of course and an old indian way I heard was to wait til the oak leaf was the size of a mouse's ear before they would plant corn. How do y'all do it? Farmer's Almanac or a different way?

Well. I plant my stuff when it warms up and I feel like it.Don't go by almanac or moon or certain dates.Don't guess it hurts to plant lettuce, radishes, spinach early,I've tried it,but it won't grow till ground warms up.(Guess it's never too early to plant the first time).LOL..

Thanks, Frank. I had already heard your wisdom on this subject but I still thought it would be nice of you to share your gardening knowledge with the board. Think we're gonna put the slaves aka the kids to work this weekend on the garden. Colin and Delaney have been put to use at it for years by my Dad.

I know how Grandpa Bob did melons in his last years of life. He put the "hill" in a big sack of potting soil, had them lined out on black cloth. Worked great for him lol
