cut all the fat from groundhog and put in a large glass jar, lid loose to vent, not loose enough for flies to get in. let it sit in the sun. after a while an oil will form above the remaining chunks of fat, take some off whenever you want, the rest of the fat will keep on turning to oil the longer it sits. i use it as a food type call lure.

never worked with groundhog oil. thanks. i will give it a shot if i can get a ground hog

i think it could be useful to a bait or lure maker. it does ok on it's own, it might really shine with the right stuff added to it. i think it would make a good lure base. does anyone have a recipe using sun rendered beaver tail oil or something similar as a base?

Here is a pic of a Hog that I shot last year. There are A LOT of them around here. If I can get some more this year ill try to get the oil off them and send ya some Bill. Maybe by the time that happens you will already of moved up here!? and I wont have to send it!

i think y'all will like it as a lure base. it has a clear amber color and a sweet mild smell. it does get pretty thick in cold weather but not frozen hard.
