Had a guy come in to work today(I work at a packing plant) wanting some cheap roast. He said he cuts it into 1 inch pieces, rolls it in garlic salt and lets it dry out and that the catfish just love it(think he said using jugs). What do y'all think of that?

he's too lazy to catch good bait, or doesn't have the sense to use better bait and catch more fish. catfish will eat about anything, and i'm sure his meat bait will catch. it will also draw in every turtle within a half mile. i'll keep puttin perch on my jugs. i dont put any garlic salt on them.

yeah that cut shad is great for channels and blues. we dont have blues on my home lake(stockton lake), but we do have flatheads and i target them primarily with large "black perch"(green sunfish).

We used to use cut shad on jug lines during the day at Truman Lake, and would catch white cat, blues, and gar. I think black perch are the best for flathead.

jobie, you probably already know this, but for anyone who is uncertain, those "white cats" actually are blue cats. that's just what they call em. also, what alot of people call a blue or a "blue lip" is actually a big channel cat. there is a species of catfish called a white catfish, but they don't live around here, ithink they are an eastern species. black perch, large goldfish, and small carp all live good on a hook and will all catch big flatheads. the bigger the bait, the better. a ten pound flathead can swallow a pound to pound and a half bait with ease. smaller baits will catch you more fish, but the bigger baits tend to produce the bigger fish. i usually put my smaller perch on jugs, as they will catch walleye and channel cats, and the big baits on trotlines set for flathead.
